You have finished the first two series of switchbacks. The trail rounds the cliff to a side you haven't seen before, and you find, right next to the trail, much to your surprise, some shade and a small spring around which are growing a few blackberry bushes.  The day is getting very hot.  To the west the trail is much steeper, but to the east it is all downhill.
